Zoning Board of Appeals

Role & Responsibility

The Zoning Board of Appeals is a quasi-judicial board, assigned by NYS law to adjudicate grievances of decisions of the Village Building Department, and to request variance of the strict application of Village zoning law. Generally, the ZBA has the authority to issue variances to relieve certain zoning restrictions on use of land for a purpose not otherwise allowed, or area variances, relaxing the dimensional or physical requirements of applicable zoning regulations.  Appeals to overturn decisions of the Village Building Department are heard by the ZBA.
