Planning Board

Role & Responsibility

Planning Board members are appointed by the Village Board of Trustees and serves in an advisory capacity on issues related to land use, zoning and development. The Planning Board is responsible for the review of site plan and subdivision applications, and typically reviews larger development projects that might be subject to Special Permits. The Planning Board works with applicants to ensure the development of substantial Village projects is in conformance with the Village's comprehensive plan. Each of the five members is appointed to a five-year term, and an alternate member, appointed for a one-year term, may fill-in on any application where a sitting member is unable to serve due.

The Village also retains BFJ Planning, a consulting firm providing professional expertise in planning, urban design, environmental analysis, real estate and transportation. A planner from BFJ attends most Planning Board meetings and provides the Planning Board with comments and professional guidance on each application.

Ideal Candidates

While not mandatory, the ideal candidates will have experience reading technical documents including project plans, blueprints, wetlands and steep slopes maps, and formal education and professional experience in one or more of the following:

• Architecture
• Community planning
• Conservation
• Construction
• Engineering
• Land use
• Land use law
• Landscape architecture
• Site Development
• Zoning

Meetings

The Planning Board meets on the second Thursday of every month at the William J. Vescio Community Center, 1 Library Road at 7:30pm.  From time to time, the Planning Board may hold special meetings and public work sessions.

Agendas are prepared two Fridays preceding the regular meeting. Planning Board applications must be received in full by the Village Clerk on the required submission date. For a complete list of all Planning Board meetings please click the Meeting Schedule link above.
